Poetry Jam: Why do we vote?

  • Yum! Kitchen & Bakery 4000 Minnetonka Boulevard Minneapolis, MN, 55416 United States (map)

Why do we vote? Join us for an open-mic poetry jam to share your story through poetry celebrating voting, civics, and global citizenship. Come read (and listen to) poems about why voting matters and what it means to be a citizen on a personal or a wider level.

Consider the meaning of voting, civic engagement, volunteerism, social action, laws, acceptance of others, government, your city and community. We encourage original poems, but are happy to hear you read someone else's work on this subject as well.
Note: Poems should not contain directly partisan content or promote a political party.

Poems on other topics may be read, but this is a night to explore our role as citizens in this community.

This event is a part of a partnership between Friends of the Arts and the City of St. Louis Park called SLP Votes, exploring the role of local elections, why voting matters, and the story of the city through creative activities and artwork.

This is a free event and will take place in the back room at Yum! Kitchen & Bakery on Minnetonka Blvd. in St. Louis Park. Pizzas and snacks will be provided. Donations to support the arts in St. Louis Park are appreciated.

For official information on voting in St. Louis Park, visit www.stlouispark.org/vote, and be sure to vote in the local election on November 5, 2019.
